Disclosure

Sponsored is labeled sponsored. Every time.

Happy Book Mail is a for-profit publication. We keep the reader product free by selling clearly labeled promotion and creative services to authors and publishers. Every material connection is labeled in plain language, next to the content it applies to, in both the email and web versions.

Sponsored placements

  • Standard issues carry at most one sponsored section, labeled “Sponsored” in the email and permanently in the web archive.
  • Payment buys the clearly labeled slot and honest presentation. It never buys a rating, editorial praise, or a guarantee of clicks or sales.
  • Sponsored books pass the same quality, honesty, and safety review as editorial picks. We reject paid submissions that don't fit, and being rejected doesn't affect future editorial consideration.
  • Advertisers receive a post-campaign report with delivered count, measured opens (with privacy caveats), and first-party click counts. We do not report purchases unless a retailer actually provides that data.

Affiliate links

Some links to retailers (for example Amazon or Bookshop.org) may earn Happy Book Mail a small commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine which books we recommend: editorial picks are chosen independently, and we'd rather lose a commission than mislabel a book. Retailer links on book pages and in issues pass through our own redirect service so we can count aggregate interest honestly; we do not place your email address in URLs.

What we don't do

  • No paid positive reviews or ratings (there are no public ratings at all).
  • No fabricated testimonials or invented results.
  • No undisclosed AI endorsements.
  • No guaranteed-sales or guaranteed-visibility claims to advertisers.
  • No “native” advertising disguised as editorial picks.

Free editorial picks

Books featured as editorial picks are selected independently under the rubric published on our about page. Authors pay nothing for editorial consideration, and payment cannot convert a rejection into a pick. The only thing it can buy is a clearly labeled sponsored section, which still faces the same review.
